Amplify 850 exists to align Florida State University and Leon County Schools in common purpose: identifying the challenges our students share and solving them together. Through year-round fundraising initiatives, community events, and a signature annual campaign, we channel the energy, talent, and leadership of Tallahassee's college students directly into the schools and neighborhoods that raised so many of us.

Each year, Amplify 850 selects one cause facing our students and rallies the entire capital city around it — building awareness, raising real dollars, and delivering measurable impact where it matters most. But our work goes beyond any single cause. We are building a lasting bridge between the university and the county it calls home: one where FSU students gain the opportunity to lead and serve, where Leon County students gain stages to showcase their talent and grow, and where the community gains a generation of young people invested in each other's success.

We believe Tallahassee's greatest resource has never been its institutions — it is its students, at every age, in every school, who contribute every day to making this city what it is. Amplify 850 exists to make sure they are seen, supported, and heard.

Our Claude Code Society teaches FSU students how to build real software with Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding tool. Members start with prompting and planning, seting up GitHub and a database, writing their own skills and project rules, and working up to running a team of AI agents with review and governance built in. Once their Claude Code system is fully built, it will be able to output work that looks and feels like a real product and not made by AI. By the end of a year, each member should be able to take an idea to a finished, polished app on their own and keep growing their system without us. We also want members to see how far one student with Claude Code can go, and give them room to build whatever they can imagine. Claude Code Society is an independent student organization, not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Anthropic.

Mission
Soundpainting is a live composing language developed by Walter Thompson in the 1970s-80s. It uses a vocabulary of hand signs and gestures given by a "soundpainter" (like a conductor, but more like a live composer) to a group of performers; musicians, dancers, actors, visual artists- who respond in real time.

Unlike a conductor leading a piece that's already written, the soundpainter is actively composing on the spot. Each gesture tells performers what to do- things like "improvise," "add a new layer," "everyone repeat what you just heard," "change dynamics," or "freeze." The performers interpret and respond immediately, so the same set of signs can produce a completely different piece every single time depending on who's performing and what choices they make in the moment.

The mission of this ensemble is to encourage more intuitive, stress-free music-making amongst music majors and non-majors.
